colonial times

Thank goodness for the Goodwill.
Where else could you pull together a colonial costume
for an 8 year old boy in a matter of an hour!
A white shirt and vest for $4.00....and in my sons size!
What luck!

baseball pants,  socks, and a trip to the party shop
for a $3.99 hat tops off the outfit!

serious cuteness!

Of course he was to cool to wear the hat on the bus;
the pants came down to his ankles as well.

I scored a few other things at the Goodwill like these
brand new Sofft wedges($2.99),
and a fabulous vintage Lord and Taylor hat($1.99).

I also found this "like new" Tignanello Leather Bag.

There is nothing like a $100.00 bag for $4.99! Woot!
Such deals! How will I ever pay retail again?

I'm looking for something in pink....

My step daughter told me a few months go that "I love pink".
This is what I hear..."must find pink things for Kirsten".
It's a quest. We all need quests!
People who now me, know that I have an innate ability to find things that people need.
Friends come to my house and say things like...."I love vintage potato mashers",
so I go into my magic cupboard and pull out, a few mashers for them to choose from.

I must say, I feel a bit defeated on my quest for pink.
I think Kirsten must have told everyone she knows to like pink as well.
Pink pyrex is almost impossible to find...even though I know I have seen it in the past.
You can get a set on ebay for around $100.00.  I say blek to that. It's not that Kirsten isn't worth a hundred dollar set of bowls....it's just that I know I will find them....I just know I will!
I have found these items so far, along with some lovely vintage linens...

I do have a pink planter, and butter dish that I haven't photographed yet.
Got any pink? let me know! help my quest!

I have been in a nesting mode of sorts.
I have been focusing on my large bathroom....freshening it up, making it pretty.
Storage is always an issue, so here is a solution I thought I would share.
It's just a shoe organizer(home goods $6.99) that I nailed to the wall behind the door.
It holds hand towels, face cloths, q-tips, etc.

new in the shop....water color kits.
All recycled materials (except the paint brush - new)
Cigar boxes, 50 cents each from Daddy's Cigar Shop.
vintage film canister, for carrying water.
water color paper - yard sale - cut to box size.
water colors - yard sales (yard sales are a great place to buy art supplies,
people have high expectations on their artistic abilities,
then are crushed when they realize that it takes work, and practice)

this one is a  wooden box that I decoupaged.

One more thing....a yummy, super easy salad.
I had this in Littleton.  Step one....go to salad bar for raw broccoli,  califlower,  carrots. and red onion.
Most salad bars have craisins, and sunflower seed as well, so get some of those. I had craisins at home, so I didn't buy them at the salad bar.

chop all the veggies...

add seeds and dried cranberries(craisins)

add salt, pepper, mayo, and a little balsamic vinegar.
so easy, so yummy, so good for you!

a snowy day...

bbbrrrrrrr.....sums up the day!
It's a  great day for... a soul warming lunch, and I have the best ever!

Yes, more Trader Joe's love! This soup is so GOOD!
It is my favorite Trader Joe's item!!!!!

It is creamy, not overly tomato-ie,
and it warms you up the whole way down!
I paired it up with this dip, along with some wheat thins.
This dip is not for the faint of heart. It has a VERY strong blue cheese taste!
I find it so yummy! A perfect snowy day meal!!!

I've been spending some quality time on ebay searching for vintage treasures.
Most treasures are to expensive.....shipping is ridiculous!
I did however stumble on these.... I paid 99 cents  for 17 plates - plus $10.00 shipping.
They are Universal Pottery salesman samples; the fascination series.  They are 3" diameter.
I love the patterns, especially the flora!

Have a great snow day!
I am off to snuggle in my bed with a good book!

some new glasses

My son, Ivan needs glasses, and
I seem to be taking it harder than he is.
I know there will be some struggles, with a lot of...
"Ivan, where are your glasses?",  and "Ivan, put your glasses on!"
He already told me he didn't want to wear them on the school bus.  Hmph!
Kids can be so cruel....if anyone makes fun of him...WATCH OUT!!!!

Off to Lens Crafters, where we were lucky, and got a great lady to help us.
She has a son Ivan's age, so she was quite good at dealing with little men!
We brought Ivan's friend Oscar, for moral support.
Oscar came out of the womb wearing glasses.

The kid kills me, he walked in to the store knowing the look he wanted.
He tried on a few different frames, but wanted his first choice.

I think he looks pretty good!!!!!! actually, GREAT!
Anyway......
I scored super huge at Goodwill the other day.
I think someone had dumped all their jewelry making supplies there.
My guess is that they had just had it....they were done!
I get it.  Selling jewelry for profit is next to impossible.
You really need to find amazing deals on supplies,
and have really unique stuff;  because everyone is making and selling jewelry!!!
BINGO!!!!! Amazing deal.....

Above is just a small portion of what I bought.
I spent about $40.00, and scored about $800.00 worth of stuff.
Most of the items still have the price tags on(a lot from the Beadin' Path in Freeport).
There are loads of tools, and jigs, and things that I have no idea what to do with.

Everything is in my shop 50% of sticker price...plus free instruction if needed.

I've added a couple of new cups to my collection... woot!

I have some cool crafty post coming up.
I am just getting over a 6 day sinus infection...YUCK!
See you here tomorrow!

playing a little catch up...

I really like to use this blog as a personal diary of sorts.
I have this fear that one day I will loose all my photos, whether it be on the computer(crash), or a large sunami. I feel that my photos, and thoughts are safe out in the world wide web... isn't it ironic, don't you think?
as you watch the video...you can brush up on your spanish!
So here is a little catch up from the past few weeks.

Something we are trying to try...... reading hour...7-8 pm weekdays.
No TV..no nothing, except a good book!

is there anything cuter than a dog on reindeer antlers?

an adorable little vintage gift for lovely Lilah.
(the duck family sleeps in the basket, after a long day of swimming)

Some great thrifting finds!
